AIRLIE Beach had a taste of its very own version of Australia's Got Talent as the hottest up-and-coming performance artists from across the Whitsundays hit the stage of Banjo's Bar and Bistro on Saturday afternoon.

Talented individuals and team groups of all ages were lining up for their chance to show off their skills in front of special guest judges Jacqui Kerr and Karen Rix.

Co-owner of Banjo's Bar and Bistro Joanne Cutler said the first heat was a huge success with 24 contestants performing in the Airlie's Got Talent event.

"We had a lot of young kids and teenagers entering in heat one and it was the perfect opportunity for them to build up their courage," she said.

Event organiser Tame Eria said all contestants would have the opportunity to perform again in the heat two of the competition which would be held on the weekend following the Whitsunday Reef Festival.

Heat two is open to any musical act, dance routine, puppet show, magic show, comedy act or quirky, bizarre talent of any kind and will kick off at 2pm on Saturday, August 24. Mrs Cutler said contestants now had a couple of weeks to fine tune their skills before they go up against some stiff competition in heat two.

"We had a lot of really talented dancers, singers, guitarists, rappers and even a comedy act perform and there has already been a number of new contestants registering for heat two so it is promising to be a very good show," she said.

Airlie's Got Talent is free to enter and new contestants are encouraged to register in person for heat two at Banjo's Bar and Bistro.
