Local tour operator to ride the tide for variety
WHITSUNDAY Jetski Tours owner Steve Ward and tour guide Sam Nikov will be completing the 2014 Ride The Tide Yamaha Variety Jet Trek for Variety - the Children's Charity QLD.
The team, known as the Whitsunday Jetski Junkies, successfully completed last year's Variety Jet Trek and raised more than $8000 for Variety.
They also bought home the coveted Spirit Award for the event and were a part of an official world record for Longest Distance by a Group Riding for Charity on Personal Watercraft. This year's Ride The Tide challenge will see Steve and Sam involved in some action-packed jet skiing as they navigate over 600km of coastline north bound from Port Macquarie to the Sunshine Coast.
They will also visit schools along the way and experience first-hand the help that funds raised bring to local children, families and communities. Variety - the Children's Charity is a national not-for-profit organisation that is committed to empowering Australian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs to live, laugh and learn.
The Yamaha Variety Jet Trek is held each year and since the event started in 1998, jet trekkers have raised over a quarter of a million dollars.
Mr Ward said it was the fourth year the Whitsunday Jetski Junkies had participated in the event and was hoping to raise at least $5000 for the charity.
"As always, we will cover all expenses involved ourselves and just ask that people donate to the cause," he said.
The Ride The Tide Yamaha Variety Jet Trek for Variety - the Children's Charity will be held from February 24 to March 1.
