Locals leading the way

CHARLIE and Betty Preen's Dehler Magic was the popular leader in Cruising Division 2 at the half-way mark of Airlie Beach Race Week.

The locals from the Whitsunday Sailing Club have returned to the regatta after a seven-year absence and are clearly the best-dressed "tropical shirt" crew.

"If they don't wear the crew uniform, they don't get on the boat," Betty said.

Another leading local is Charles Wallis, whose Reignition was first in Cruising Division 1.

Damian Suckling's Another Fiasco was third in this division, while Twister, skippered by Whitsunday Sailing Club Rear Offshore Commodore Kevin Fogarty, was third in Cruising Division 2.

Local boats QMS and Sunrise were second and third respectively in Non Spinnaker, with Kameruka third in Cruising Division 3.
