Locals meet Ronan Keating

WHITSUNDAY residents Shirley Wodson, Lynette Corne, Jo Smirdon, Annie Cleghorn and Annette Pickering were among those fortunate enough to meet pop star Ronan Keating on Hamilton Island last week.

The local residents attended last Wednesday's inaugural Audi Hamilton Island Race Week Charles Heidsieck Champagne Lunch at which the Channel 7 X Factor judge and his girlfriend Storm Uechtritz were special guests.

Ms Wodson said she and her friends had been staying on Hamilton Island and were keen to check out the luxury qualia resort where the function was held.

"We'd heard rumours that Ronan Keating was on the island but we had no idea he was going to show up at the lunch," she said.

Ms Wodson said it was her friend Lynette who plucked up the courage to ask the singer if he would mind posing for a photograph.

"He was so obliging and so friendly - it was lovely," she said.

Keating also delighted guests by singing a happy 21st birthday to fellow guest and male model Zac Onfrey. His impromptu performance received rousing applause.

The lunch itself was a three-course meal matched with Charles Heidsieck wines.

Ms Wodson said it was a great experience and one the ladies would not forget.

"It was brilliant. Great food, great wine, great company and a great venue," she said.

"We all had a fantastic time and it was something we'll be talking about for a long time to come."
