Locals sour on milk war
THE milk pricing war rages on with shoppers across the nation opting to boycott Coles and Woolworths branded milk.
In the Whitsundays, debate is building after locals reported that brand name milk was not being restocked.
Both supermarket chains have denied these claims, saying it was simply a matter of supply and demand.
A Woolworths spokesperson said their stores had seen "a noticeable increase in demand for branded milk in the last few days".
"We are working together with our suppliers to respond to that change in customer demand as quickly as possible given our customers' desire for choice," they said.
A Coles spokesperson made a similar statement.
"Over the weekend, many of our stores sold out of branded milk due to increased demand," they said.
"Stores were not advised to withhold selling branded milk in order to sell Coles brand milk first.
"Many stores have in fact increased their orders of branded milk to meek this increased demand."
Opinion appears divided on social media.
"Sounds like a marketing campaign to me," Jamie Miltenburg wrote on Facebook.
Kate Irving isn't convinced however, agreeing with the supermarket chains.
"It's just that some stores may not have adjusted to the influx of brand sales," she wrote.
