Logan day postponed
THE fundraiser for six-year-old cancer sufferer Logan Wells has been postponed until the end of April.
The community fundraiser was supposed to be held this Saturday at the Reef Gateway Hotel, but has been postponed due to damage in parts of the hotel from Tropical Cyclone Ului.
The function, lounge and gaming areas have been deemed unsafe due to water damage from the weekend’s category three cyclone.
General Manager Tony Barbara said at this stage they are estimating that the hotel will again be fully operational in the next four to six weeks.
The bottle shop and front bar are still open to the public and light meals are available.
Logan was diagnosed with a rare from of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma – a sarcoma that takes hold of soft tissue and can grow in any part of the body, in January.
Soon after the diagnosis, Logan’s big sister Sarah (12) took a tin to the Reef Gateway Hotel and that initial step has snowballed, creating a sense of urgency throughout the Whitsunday business community which has passed the hat around to garner support for a fundraiser.
Next months event will include a fashion parade, art show – as well musical entertainment, raffles and auctions.
Tickets are $15 and include a glass of bubbly, afternoon tea and a ticket in the draw for the lucky door prize.
Tickets are available from the Cannonvale State School library, Just Jeans, the Reef Gateway Hotel, Whitsunday Information Centre in Proserpine and directly from organiser and Wells family friend Maz McDougall who can be contacted on 4946 5051 or 0418 555 263.
