Long term solution needed

EXECUTIVE Director of Cruise Whitsundays Chris Jacobs has said that parking is a problem at Abel Point and that something needs to be done about it.

“The whole parking issue has been a problem for a long time,” he said.

“We have had discussions with Council and with Meridien (owners of the marina) and they both accept there is a problem.”

Mr Jacobs said that the introduction of paid parking may help to alleviate some of the problems with parking at the marina.

He said parking was a problem and that was aggravated by people parking long term who were basically camping in the car park. “Paid parking is a possible solution to that.

“But it is an intermediate step; Meridien and Council need to do come up with a long term solution,” he said.

Mr Jacobs is also the chairman of Tourism Whitsundays.
