A look at what’s new at this year’s race week

THIS year, new events are coming to the Airlie Beach Race Week's onshore entertainment program, which are sure to keep the landlubbers as engaged as the sailors.

Airlie Beach Race Week marketing manager Adrian Bram was excited to announce a new onshore events schedule for 2016.

"We have got a long, late lunch on the lawn on Saturday (August 13) and it's going to be a six-course Italian inspired menu served with six matching wine," he said.

"We have also got a festival fun run on Sunday, August 14, which is an event staged by the Whitsunday Running Club."

For the first time this year, there will be an outrigger challenge, a long lunch, wine show and family fun run at the Whitsunday Sailing Club.

As well as the new events, the musical talent booked for this year's Race Week offers everything from reggae-funk to country, blues and R&B.

Competitors, family, friends and Airlie Beach locals are all invited to rock the nightly parties back at the Whitsunday Sailing Club, so put the dates on your calendar.

Entries for Airlie Beach Race Week 2016 close at midnight on Friday, August 5.

The committee may accept entries after this date subject to an additional late fee.
