Beloved pooch lost for months found by Gladstone region owners

A 12-year-old Shiatzu-cross found wandering in Urangan was reunited with his Miriam Vale owners last week, six months after he went missing.

Checko went missing in a storm on Christmas Day last year from his property.

"We weren't too alarmed that he was missing," owner Louisa Eaton said.

"On hot days he visits the neighbours to sleep on the concrete slab so we thought he had just gone up there.

"The next day we went looking for him but there was no sign of Checko anywhere."

A search of the neighbourhood and a Facebook campaign failed to find any trace of the little fellow.

When found in Hervey Bay, Fraser Coast council officer Steve Lamb scanned Checko at the Animal Adoption Centre in hope of finding a microchip.

Louisa, partner Blake and two kids, drove to Hervey Bay to collect Checko the next day.

"We bundled the kids in the car and headed off to get him. Our two-year-old son Vinnie was very happy to see his playmate "Cheeky" come home," she said.

The couple have had Checko since he was a 12 week old puppy.
