Lots of fun had at local school fete

THE sounds of children's laughter and the smell of freshly barbecued treats filled the air on Saturday at the 2014 Cannonvale State School fete.

Children flocked to the jumping castle and carnival rides while adults relaxed on the grass making the most of the sausage sizzle and bake stall.

The Proserpine Citizen Band entertained audiences and their rendition of Pharrell William's Happy was a particular favourite which had audiences bopping their heads and tapping their feet.

Former Cannonvale State School deputy principal Merewyn Wright and Whitsunday regional councillor John Atkinson judged the school's annual cake box competition.

Entries for this year's cake box competition made for one of the toughest competitions to judge to date.

Boxes were decorated in lots of colour, sparkles and 3D objects, some advertised the fete and others promoted recycling and the protection of the reef.

Prizes were awarded in first, second and third to each grade.

Cannonvale State School Parents and Citizens Association president Sonia Zadebernyj was thankful for the community's support of the state school education through the school's annual fete.

"Our school received voluntary support from many local families, both past and present members of our school, businesses and organisations to help make this event a fantastic day for everyone," she said. The Cannonvale State School Parents and Citizens Association were overwhelmed by the attendance and have made a net profit of over $11,000. Funds raised will go directly back into supporting the children of Cannonvale State School inside and outside the classroom with much needed resources.
