Coast cleaners score big share of $1m Gold Lotto win
JUST as well Joe Holmes did not listen to his wife Helen.
The Bli Bli cleaners yesterday received the shock of their lives when they claimed their share of a $1 million Gold Lotto win.
Joe and a mate, who did not wish to be named, took home the first division prize after sticking to their weekly ritual of purchasing two tickets.
Every Friday afternoon for the past 12 months Joe and his mate have wandered down to Maroochydore Newsagency at the Big Top and asked for a nine-game entry and a 12-game quickpick.
This is despite the protests of Joe's better half, who declared it a waste of time and money.
"She keeps saying it's a waste of time," he told The Daily yesterday. "She keeps saying 'you're wasting your money, you're wasting your money'.
"We've got a couple of dollars in our pockets now."
While Helen stared daggers through Joe as she overheard him telling the Daily that anecdote yesterday, you could not wipe the smile from their faces after their lives changed.
They were one of 19 winners in Saturday's $20 million draw and one of the two Sunshine Coast people to take out the $1,052,631.58 first division prize.
Another Sunshine Coast woman won after purchasing her ticket online.
There were small celebrations and big smiles around the Big Top, where Joe, Helen and their syndicate partner all work.
It was also the 11th first division win for Maroochydore Newsagency. The couple said they were excited about the future, but would continue working at their cleaning and maintenance business, AssetLink, for now.
