Maccas starts recruiting

THE New McDonalds restaurant at Cannonvale will employ 85 people.

Owner Michael Muller, who also owns the McDonalds stores in Airlie Beach and Bowen, is looking to employ 95 people in the coming weeks – 85 for the new store at Cannonvale and an extra 10 for his Airlie Beach store.

Mr Muller said this week that all positions would be part-time casual with about half being offered to school-age people and the other half to other ages.

However, he has been advertising in recent weeks and only received about 30 applications.

He needs more applications as he is hoping the new Cannonvale store will open on the weekend of October 10 and 11.

The store is being built at the Reef Plaza complex opposite Centro.

Mr Muller said the extra employment would be a welcome boost to the Whitsundays economy.

“Just about everyone we've been talking to has not had a job in a long time,” he said.

The new store will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Mr Muller hopes to start training staff in the week starting September 13 with staggered trials between then and the opening of the store in mid-October.

He said this would be stable employment for all employees as he planned to be here for the long term.

“We are offering opportunities for people to develop,” he said.

“There will be a lot more career opportunities now that we have three stores.'
