Mailman writes to grieving boy from 'doggie heaven'
A VERY young boy has been left delighted by the actions of a thoughtful mailman as he grieved for his lost beagle Moe.
The beloved family pet had shrugged off this earthly world at age 13, leaving the American family of Mary and Roberto Westbrook heartbroken.
Their son Luke, 3, kept asking when Moe was coming back.
Eventually the little boy asks if he can write a letter to his lost friend.
Together they scrawl out some messages in crayon, including:
"I miss you. Hope you're having fun in doggie heaven"
The envelopes are sealed and put out ready for the mailman -- they are addressed to Moe Westbrook on Cloud One.
The canny Mary snuck the letters from the mailbox, but must have forgotten one.
"I figured someone would just throw it away once it got to the post office," she told The Virginian-Pilot newspaper.
"It didn't even have a stamp."
But someone was obviously not willing to let such a beautiful message go to waste.
In their letterbox this week arrived a response.
It was addressed to Luke from Moe with a tiny United States Postal Service marked at the bottom.
"I'm in Doggie Heaven. I play all day. I am happy.
Thank you 4 being my friend. I wuv you Luke."
