Making men's health and well-being a top priority

PAUL Hillary is the brains behind an event that is challenging men to get outside their comfort zone.

Having had personal experience of family members suffering depression and employees being affected by drug use, Paul felt he had a responsibility to do what he could to make a positive difference in people's lives.

"I have seen people that have worked for me (go downhill) and it's just a waste of a life,” he said.

The Men's Health Whitsunday day is designed to provide a fun family day out for the blokes, at the same time encouraging

men to take an active interest in their own physical and emotional well-being.

As well as a show and shine, tug-o-war, a dash for cash and pass the footy games there will be a talk delivered by former Gold Coast Titans five-eighth, Preston Campbell.

"(We are) basically trying to get men out and show them what is on offer in the community for them.”

A pit-stop health check will be available on Saturday at the event to be held at the Bowen Sound Shell, which will offer skin checks and urine samples taken for later analysis. "We have a responsibility to people in the community. You can't just sit back and do nothing about it,” Paul said.
