Man, 21, given 20 years for murder of Joan Rythers and child
A 21-YEAR-OLD-MAN man has been sentenced to life in prison for the rape and murder of Joan Ryther and killing her unborn child at Logan Central, south of Brisbane, three years ago.
Andrew Michael Burke will spend a minimum of 20 years in prison.
Ms Ryther, 27, was eight weeks pregnant when she was killed in May 2013 as she made her way to work at a fast food restaurant.
Her husband, Corey Ryther, raised the alarm when he discovered she had not shown up for her shift.
The following day, her bloodied and partially clothed body was found in the front yard of a home close to where she worked.
