Man charged with stabbing murder

A MAN has been charged with murder following the stabbing of a woman at Andergrove on Saturday.

The 25-year-old woman died from stab wounds as she arrived at Mackay Base Hospital early Saturday morning, a Queensland Police Service media spokesperson said yesterday.

The incident occurred about 5.30am at an address in Dapplewood Close at Andergrove, the spokesperson said.

The 43-year-old man was also taken to Mackay Base Hospital for treatment for injuries.

The police spokesperson said the man and the woman allegedly had been involved in an altercation at the Dapplewood Close home, which resulted in stab wounds to the woman.

“She was taken to the Mackay Base Hospital where she died on arrival,” the spokesperson said.

Queensland Health could not be contacted last night and the man's condition was unknown.

However, police yesterday charged him with one count of murder. “He is due to face Mackay Magistrates Court in the near future,” the spokesperson said.

The Dapplewood Close house remained cordoned off yesterday as police continued their investigation.

Forensic investigators examined the scene at the weekend and were also at a second site in nearby Elm Drive.

The Daily Mercury attempted to speak with neighbours yesterday but those approached said they didn't wish to be interviewed.

There was little activity in the quiet cul de sac.
