Man, 68, accused of interfering with crab pots

A 68-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with interfering with crab pots off-shore near Seaforth.

Haliday Bay man Colin Walters appeared in Mackay Magistrates Court this morning, charged under the Fisheries Act 1994 with interfering with aquaculture activity on June 13 last year.

Defence solicitor David Strutynski said an attempt at case conferencing had been unsuccessful and that the matter would have to proceed to a hearing.

Walters did not enter a plea.

Magistrate Damien Dwyer set the hearing date for November 29.

Walter is on bail.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of a $60,950 fine.
