Police charge Proserpine man over assault incident

UPDATE:

A 53-YEAR-OLD Proserpine man has been charged with one count of each of serious assault of a person over 60 and grievous bodily harm.

He is due to appear in the Proserpine Magistrates court today, police said.

Meanwhile the 66-year-old man was transported to Mackay Base Hospital about 3pm yesterday suffering head injuries, but in a stable condition.

The 63-year-old woman was released from Proserpine Hospital yesterday.

 

YESTERDAY:

A 66-YEAR-OLD man and 63-year-old woman were transported to Proserpine Hospital after being allegedly assaulted earlier today.

Police said a 53-year-old Proserpine man has been taken into custody and is assisting police with their investigations.

About 10.30am police were called to a residence on Lurline Street following reports of a disturbance between two men.

It will be alleged the men became involved in an altercation resulting in a 66-year-old man being physically assaulted.

It will further be alleged that a 63-year-old woman was also assaulted when she attempted to intervene and help the victim.

The 63-year-old woman suffered minor injuries to her leg and hands. 

She was taken to the Proserpine Hospital for treatment.

The 66-year-old man suffered head and internal injuries. 

He was also taken to the Proserpine Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
