Man believed to be driving at 180km/h on Bruce Highway

A 20-YEAR-OLD Mareeba man is believed to have driven along the Bruce Highway at 180km/h.

The car was clocked doing 146km/h on the Bruce Highway at Gumlu about 9.30pm on Saturday.

The driver overtook an unmarked police car travelling between Rangemore and Rocky Points Rd.

Police believe he continued accelerating to a speed of about 180km/h before being stopped.

The driver was issued what police have described as a "significant fine and suspension".

Police have reinforced the fact that every metre over the limit can be crucial.
