Shark control

According to data on Shark Control in Queensland, of the 52 sharks caught off Mackay's beaches, 42 were tiger sharks.

The majority of sharks were caught on Lamberts Beach and Harbour Beach.

But the largest tiger shark was caught in a shark net at Bucasia beach measuring 3.8m.

Only Bucasia uses shark nets, while Blacks Beach, Lamberts, Eimeo, and Harbour beaches use drum lines.

Harbour Beach, using drum lines, had the highest number of sharks caught with 29 sharks caught so far this year.

The catch included two black tipped reef whalers, and three tawny sharks.

The largest shark caught by Shark Control this year was a 4.1m tiger shark at Ellis Beach, Cairns.
