Man charged with dog chain attack to spend weeks in custody
A MAN accused of a violent daylight attack in Warwick will remain in police custody until his next court appearance.
Shane David Matheson-Bell was charged on Wednesday after allegedly whipping his partner on the head with a dog chain and punching her twice in the head.
The 32-year-old had his matter mentioned at Warwick Magistrates Court yesterday and the case was adjourned.
The case is scheduled to be brought before Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on February 14 at 10am.
Mr Matheson-Bell was remanded in police custody after yesterday's court proceedings.
The Warwick man has been charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed, public nuisance and contravening a direction from police.
Police will allege Mr Matheson-Bell approached a 33-year-old woman, with whom he was in a relationship, outside Warwick RSL Memorial Club about 8.45am on Wednesday.
They claim Mr Matheson-Bell punched her once in the side of the head and when she stood up to get away from him, he allegedly struck her on the head with the dog chain.
Police allege he then punched her in the head again.
Members of the public who witnessed the incident called police, who arrested the man and took him to Warwick watch-house.
The woman refused medical attention immediately after the incident.
