Man fined $1099: You won't believe how fast he was going

A 51-YEAR-OLD man has had the honour of doing the highest speed in the state while travelling through the Fraser Coast on the fifth day of the Easter Road Safety Campaign.

The South Gladstone man was clocked doing a massive 166kmh in the 100kmh zone on the Bruce Hwy at Cherwell, north of Howard on Monday.

A Queensland Police Media spokesman said the man was seen by an unmarked police car overtaking a number of vehicles as he travelled south about 9.30am.

He was fined a whopping $1099 for the offence.

As it was his first high speeding offence, the man did not have his vehicle impounded.

Seven other motorists in the central Queensland police region were not so lucky, having their car impounded for various driving offences.

There have been no fatalities in Queensland since the Easter campaign began on Thursday.
