A 22-year-old man fell several meters down an embankment at Sunshine Beach and needed to be winched to safety on Saturday.

The man lost consciousness and suffered head, neck, and leg injuries after he slipped and fell in the national park.

RACQ's LifeFlight Rescue helicopter winched the man to safety after the on-board Critical Care Doctor and Flight Paramedic were lowered down to treat the man at the scene.

The chopper then flew the man to Nambour General Hospital in a stable condition.
