Man fractures skull in fall from roof

AN 18-YEAR-OLD Brisbane man is in hospital with a fractured skull after falling from the roof of a Jubilee Pocket home on New Year's Eve. Police and paramedics were called to the Jubilee Pocket address at about 11.30pm where the man had fallen four or five metres from the roof.

Officer in Charge of the Whitsunday Police Station, Acting Senior Sergeant Simon Walter, said it was initially thought that the man, described as being in an extremely intoxicated state, may have been assaulted. "However it appears he'd been attending a party and had wandered off and fallen from a [nearby] roof," he said.

The man was transported to Proserpine Hospital and later air-lifted to Townsville with a fractured skull. At the time of going to press he was in a stable condition in the Townsville Hospital.

Act. Snr Sgt Walter said this scenario was not uncommon in high-rise areas and that it highlighted the importance of looking after friends, particularly those who may be drunk.
