Man hands himself in

A JUBILEE Pocket man surrendered himself to the Proserpine Magistrates Court on Monday after he failed to appear in court in January after being charged for other offences.

On December 10 at about 12.05am, Whitsunday police conducting foot patrols in the Airlie Beach safe night precinct saw Joc Thomas Earl, 22, leaving a kebab shop on the main street when he started yelling at an unknown man, the court heard.

Civilian lawyer and prosecutor Chris Bennett said Earl proceeded to kick off his thongs, take his hat off and put his wallet down before raising his arms and clenching his fists.

When approached by police, Earl said "don't tell me what to do you pig c**ts”.

Earl was charged with public nuisance for the offence.

On December 11, 2016, Earl was released on bail and was required to appear in court on January 16, but failed to do so.

Appearing as duty lawyer, Cleo Rewald said Earl had his court date mixed up and handed himself in as soon as he'd realised his mistake. In relation to the public nuisance, Ms Rewald said alcohol played a significant part.

Magistrate Simon Young handed Earl a total fine of $1000.
