Man in Rainbow Beach knife attack pleads guilty
A RAINBOW Beach man who, armed with a knife, attacked a car with two young children and a woman inside, shortly before the woman suffered a double cardiac arrest, has pleaded guilty in court.
Graham Michael Hughes, 22, appeared in Gympie Magistrates Court on Wednesday, pleading guilty to threatening violence and wilful damage after the incident on June 14 on Inskip Ave.
He had previously denied stabbing the vehicle in a court appearance last month.
Defence lawyer Chris Anderson told the court he accepted Mr Hughes' actions had been excessive, but said his client had been provoked.
Kaylah Bennett- Martincevic, 21, was in the car with her fiance and two children aged four and 14 months old when Mr Hughes stabbed the car with the knife as part of a road rage drama.
Ms Bennett-Martincevic suffered a double cardiac arrest and was in a critical condition for two days.
Mr Anderson had previously told the court there was "bad blood" between Mr Hughes and the man in the car.
Mr Hughes will will be sentenced on July 21.
