Man run over by own boat in Abell Point Marina

A MAN in his sixties is in a stable condition with cuts to his head and chest after being run over by his own boat in Abell Point Marina about 2.15pm.

Local man Paul Atkins was working on the gardens at Peninsula Airlie Beach, across the marina wall, when the harrowing incident began to unfold.

"I heard the splash and then heard the motor rev from the boat," he said.

"Then when I looked over you could see that he was trying to push (the boat) away and it was doing laps on top of him.

"Three, maybe four, times it went around before the motor stalled.

"And the motor stalled when it hit him."

Mr Atkins said the man began screaming for help.

"And he was half standing on the rocks...on the edge of the rock wall for the marina," he said.

"There was a couple working on their boat on the corner (of the marina arm) and I was yelling to them to get him out of the water."

The couple pulled the man into a tender while Mr Atkins called for an ambulance.

"They pulled him out into the small tender first, and then they took him over to (the marina arm)," Mr Atkins said.

"He half got himself out of the boat onto the marina and he just slumped.

"He was laying there on his side, he wasn't moving.

"He was obviously in a pretty bad way."

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said the man suffered cuts to his head and chest.

The man was transported to Proserpine Hospital for further treatment.
