Marino and team happy to be home

THERE'S no place like home - at least this is how Yvonne and Marino Roberto feel about having Marino's Deli back up and running in its original location at the Whitsunday Shopping Centre in Cannonvale.

The Roberto's were forced out of their spot at the front of the centre near Target, after it was gutted by fire in the early hours of Friday, March 7.

For the past four months they have been able to operate in the centre's former Dizzy Lizzy cafe, between the Post Office and Coles - something Mrs Roberto says they are very grateful for being able to do.

"It's definitely been stressful, but we were grateful to have had the temporary location. It gave us a way to keep going and keep all of our staff as well," she said.

While Marino's continued to supply locals with gourmet food and a steady stream of hot coffee, repairs got underway at their original shop. "The place had to be completely gutted - there was nothing left," Mrs Roberto said.

"It had to be re-done from the tiles to the roof to the exhaust fans - absolutely everything now is new."

Marino's Deli re-opened at its original location last week and the Robertos say they couldn't be happier to be back.

"It's nice to talk with my customers again after being hidden in the kitchen at the other place," Mr Roberto said.

Both Mr and Mrs Roberto said a big "thank you" to everyone who helped them through the past four months and they made special mention of Jeni Borellini, who provided great entertainment for the crowds at last week's opening day.

"All the community has been behind us and supported us throughout all of the four months and we are very grateful for that," Mrs Roberto said.
