Markets open and cinema planned

SHOPPERS looking for a bargain made their way to Airlie Beach’s newest shopping centre on Sunday.

The Airlie Markets opened its doors to shoppers on Sunday morning and while there was no Christmas sale type rush, a steady flow of shoppers went through the doors across the day to check out the new indoor market.

Airlie Markets project manager Joel McBride said about 32 stallholders set up on the opening day and he was pleased with the feedback so far.

“It is a nice place to shop,” he said.

“It is like a little micro shopping centre and the beauty of the place is we can open in all weather.”

The Airlie Markets complex includes a chicken shop, cafe and hairdresser and gym and Mr McBride said he was still in negotiations with a licensed cinema operator to set up a movie theatre at the venue.
