Marshall gives stand-in coach high praise

DRAGONS pivot Benji Marshall says the man-management skills of interim coach Paul McGregor have been a key factor in the team's turnaround in the past month.

Ahead of tonight's home game against a resurgent Melbourne Storm, the former New Zealand international said McGregor was the type of coach who gave players encouragement when they needed it, but at the same time wasn't afraid to hand out some home truths.

"He understands the plays and has a great man-management approach to coaching which sometimes gets overlooked due to the focus on other aspects of the role," Marshall said.

"He's familiar with a lot of the players at the club having worked with them in the lower grades - and like I've said, he speaks his mind honestly when it's required."

The Dragons (13th) need to win to stay in touch with the top eight.
