Matt takes opportunity to help out little Finn Smith

CELEBRITY chef Matt Golinski has joined the large group of people offering comfort to tiny meningococcal sufferer Finn Smith.

During a cooking demonstration at the Harvey Norman Maroochydore store yesterday, Mr Golinski said that when he heard about the 13-month-old from Pacific Paradise, he felt fortunate to be able to combine forces with the store's team to send him a cuddly Christmas bear.

"(Fundraising is) definitely something I've been doing more of, and it's great I get the opportunity to do it," he said.

"The Ready Steady Cook group of guys (including fellow chefs Manu Feildel and Alastair McLeod) did fundraisers all over the country for me when I was still in a coma, so it's really good I can do it for others."

It was two years ago on Boxing Day that Mr Golinski's wife and three daughters tragically were killed in a fire at their Tewantin home.

He survived with severe burns to almost 40% of his body and was in an induced coma for two months.

He said he hoped the giant Christmas bear would help Finn's family cope over Christmas, following the thousands of dollars in generous donations that have flooded in since he first fell ill in November.

The family has had a tough time after being told just over a week ago that Finn would require more amputations than initially thought.

A joint campaign by the Sunshine Coast Daily and radio station Hot 91.1FM has also raised more than $20,000 for the youngster.
