Mayor declares conflict of interest over marina

TODAY'S meeting of the Whitsunday Regional Council revealed a person "related" to the director of the proposed Shute Harbour Marina project was a contributor to Mayor Andrew Willcox's election campaign.

Cr Willcox made this declaration in a prepared statement on Monday and announced that after receiving legal advice, he was declaring a "perceived" conflict of interest.

"I was provided with $2400 by an election campaign donor. Unknown to me at the time, this donor is related to one of the directors of the marina (project)," he said.

The announcement during the mayoral minute comes after council a council backflip on its their support for the development at the their last meeting.

During the Whitney administration, the Whitsunday Council voted to advise the State Government it opposed an extension of the development lease.

At the first meeting of the new council that decision was effectively overturned.

Cr Willcox said there was no issue with the validity of the resolution made on April 27, which stated council had no objection to the issuing of a development lease
