McCormack takes out first category win
TEENAGE bodybuilder Kyle McCormack has taken to competition like a duck to water, winning a title on his first attempt.
The 16-year-old won the men's under-65kg category in the ANB Australisian Natural Bodybuilding Competition in Townsville last month.
In his first competition Kyle outshone his opponents, taking out first and receiving an encouragement award.
Despite being nervous before his maiden competition, his confidence grew quickly on stage.
"It was really nerve-wracking," he said.
"But when I stepped on to the stage it felt right.
"This is something I want to do for the rest of my life."
Kyle said he didn't expect to win - especially given it was his first competition.
His dedication to his training seems to be paying off, but his discipline extends further than simply pumping iron.
Kyle trains every day for roughly an hour-and-a-half, then follows a strict diet that predominately revolves around chicken, sweet potato and a range of supplements.
"It all came as a bit of a surprise for me," he said.
"I was shocked. It's really hard work - I'm currently in high school [Proserpine State High School] and working two jobs.
"I work out each individual muscle on different days."
He's been body building for about a year-and-a-half - he took on the challenge after attending Airlie Fitness and deciding to up the ante.
"I'm not sure what got me into body building - I saw it as a challenge," he said.
"I was working out at the gym and wanted to take it to the next level."
Kyle said he was looking forward to taking on more competitions next year.
"I'm going to see where it takes me," he said.
