McCutcheon speaks to local students about sports excellence

ST CATHERINE'S sports excellence students have gained a valuable insight into what it takes to succeed in the field.

Inspirational speaker and multi-talented athlete Graeme McCutcheon spoke at the school last week, handing down tips and advice for the class.

McCutcheon, who won 11 state titles, four national titles and managed podium finishes three times at world events for skiing, kayaking, underwater hockey, canoeing and sailing, spoke to the children about reaching and recognising their potential. An accredited sports coach, McCutcheon encouraged the kids to think about sport differently.

"It's not about winning. And when you realise this, as funny as it sounds, that is when you will start succeeding," he said. "Greatness is only accomplished with passion" was the main sticking point of his presentation, imploring students to fully apply themselves in their chosen area.

McCutcheon's goal is to help as many people as possible strive for success, accomplish their greatest ambitions and be leaders in their respective fields.

Although McCutcheon spoke with a sports focus, the attributes and traits he highlighted are also applicable to every day life, and the students in attendance are sure to benefit.

St Catherine's sports co-ordinator Bruce Laguna said it was hugely beneficial for the school to have someone of McCutcheon's stature and experience address the class.
