Meet the elected councillors

THE Whitsundays has a new mayor and also has three new councillors.

Jan Clifford was re-elected in Division 1, Peter Ramage was re-elected in Division 4 and Dave Clark was re-elected in Division 5.

In Division 2, which includes Cannonvale and Cannon Valley, Kevin Collins is the newly elected councillor defeating six rivals including incumbent deputy mayor Rogin Taylor and former mayor of the Whitsunday Shire, Mario Demartini.

In Division 3, there was no incumbent as Jennifer Whitney vacated the seat to stand for mayor - and was successful. There were five candidates for the division which is centred around Proserpine.

The successful councillor was local butcher John "Sarge" Collins.

In Division 6, the new councillor is retired tomato farmer, Andrew Wilcox, from Bowen, who replaces Mark Gaudry who did not seek re-election.

The new council will officially be sworn in at the council chambers in Proserpine at 9am on Friday.
