Men lucky to be alive
DION Vinci is thanking his lucky stars he is alive.
Last Thursday the 18-year-old Jubilee Pocket man was driving back from Dysart with two work mates when their four wheel drive left the road and rolled a number of times.
Dion escaped with minor injuries to his arm and neck.
He spent two nights in hospital in Mackay.
One of the passengers, who was asleep on the back seat, was thrown metres from the car.
He suffered spinal injuries and remains in hospital in a stable condition.
The other passenger also had minor injuries.
The RACQ-CQ Rescue Helicopter and ambulance attended the scene. Mr Vinci said he was so relieved the three of them had all survived.
“Seeing the photos of the car [afterwards], I was like, ‘far out'.
“I can't believe we all got out of it alive.
“I looked in the back [seat] and saw that [one of the passengers] wasn't there and I thought he was dead.”
Dion wanted all motorists to be aware of how important it was to wear a seat belt and drive safely, especially with the Easter holiday period next week.
“Wear your seatbelt,” he said.
“They save your life.”
Dion said he was grateful for the motorists who pulled over to the side of the road and helped them.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
