Minecraft creator: "I'm OK with being a one-hit wonder"

HE made one game, now played by more than 1 million people at any time. Its PC version alone has sold 23.5 million copies, including 6337 in the past 24 hours.

But Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson has found himself comfortable with being a "one-hit wonder" after selling the world-conquering game to Microsoft for US$2.5 billion in 2014.

Notch appeared in a Reddit thread asking who are considered "one-hit wonders" outside of the music industry.

One Reddit user said Notch came to mind.

And perhaps unsurprisingly given his background, Notch happened to be browsing Reddit and decided to chime in.

His answer shows the billionaire has gradually learned to be happy with his success.

"The pressure of feeling like I needed to make something as huge as minecraft again to avoid being a one hit wonder was a huge burden on me for a long time," he wrote.

"Then, over time, I realized I didn't even intend for Minecraft to be that big, and what I genuinely like doing is writing code. Now I spend my life doing huge lines of code off an ipad, and I've never been happier.

"Being referred to as a 'one hit wonder' makes me feel a sense of being fortunate these day, without any of the connotations of pressure."

Of course, it's Reddit so people started making jokes.

One asked if he meant code or coke (cocaine).

"I said code. What are you talking about? I do my programming on an iPad," he replies.
