Miners dig deep

WHITSUNDAY FC went down to the Miners under-19 side 2-0, when they met at the Whitsunday Sports Park on Sunday.

Missing several key players and their head coach, FC battled hard against the visitors but were outclassed.

The Miners started the better of the two teams and, although dominating possession in the opening 20 minutes, they were unable to find an early goal.

Missing the strike power of Mark Killian and Joey Abedini the home side were struggling in attack but fought hard on defence and frustrated the Miners.

The deadlock was finally broken late in the first half when a great through ball from the mid-field led to the Miners scoring the opening goal.

With minutes remaining in the half, WFC had a golden opportunity to draw level but a superb save by the Miners keeper ensured the home side trailed 1-0 at the break.

WFC fought their way back in the second half but couldn't convert chances and went another goal down when they conceded off a corner.

Despite fighting hard to the end, the Miners managed to keep a clean sheet and run home comfortable 2-0 winners.
