Miniature pigs pay ultimate price for tattoo debt

A BREEDER of miniature pigs has detailed the heartbreak of returning to her farm to find three of her baby animals torn apart by a pig dog.

Leyburn woman Adele Gabriel believes a large dog was released intentionally at her property on Sunday as retribution for an estranged family member's tattoo debt.

Miss Gabriel was at work when two men arrived in a ute at her Mini Acres Miniature Pigs property about 2pm.

She said her partner Tony spoke with the men, who asked for money owed to a tattooist by a member of Miss Gabriel's family.

She said the men left soon after.

Miss Gabriel said the men then stopped at the edge of the property before a large dog was let off the back of the ute.

"One dog did the damage," Miss Gabriel said.

She said the dog mauled three miniature piglets to death before it was called back to the ute and the men drove away.

Details of the incident were posted on Mini Acres Miniature Pigs Facebook page and drew a wide range of reactions as it was shared across the social network.

Some expressed outrage while others were less sympathetic.

A description of the men and their vehicle was shared more than 570 times.

The vehicle was described as a white Toyota LandCruiser with two dog boxes on the back, with two dogs in each box.

Miss Gabriel wanted to make clear that she didn't hold a grudge against wild pig hunters, but was angry dogs had been used on her domestic animals.

She said the pigs reached a meagre 45cm in length when fully grown.

They had been grazing in an open area enclosed by an electric fence at the time of the attack.

"I was just gut-wrenched.

"We buried the poor little pigs."

Police yesterday confirmed they had received a report of the incident.
