Minister praises Mercury’s campaign

THE Daily Mercury's coverage of black lung has encouraged at-risk workers to get checked, Queensland Mines Minister Anthony Lynham believes.

Dr Lynham on Wednesday praised the Daily Mercury's ongoing reporting of the issue and thanked the paper for keeping it in the spotlight.

"I'd like at this stage to thank regional media for bringing this issue to the forefront. Especially the Daily Mercury in Mackay, he said.

"Because those initiatives in regional media have encouraged workers to see their GPs and to get rescreened."

Dr Lynham said the Queensland Government was committed to tackling black lung and ensuring coal miners were safe at work.
