THEY'RE the dysfunctional family you can't get enough of, and now they're here.
The cast and crew of hit US comedy series Modern Family have hit the Whitsundays where scenes of an Australian vacation episode will be filmed.
Whitsundays Marketing and Development chief executive officer Danial Rochford described the arrival as "a major coup" not only for the Whitsundays but for Queensland and Australia.
"Having Modern Family showcase Australia and the Whitsundays to their audience is going to be a massive PR and marketing boom for the region, state and country," Mr Rochford said.
"I noticed yesterday (Monday) one of the stars tweeted and had 54,000 responses - that shows you the significance of this and how far it can go."
He described it as a "great opportunity" for the Great Barrier Reef.

Mr Rochford said he thought the filming would focus on Hayman Island and the Great Barrier Reef , not Airlie Beach.
"It's been a co-ordinated effort between many agencies between here and there," he said.
"We can only congratulate all those involved for making it happen."
He compared the visit to that of Oprah Winfrey in 2010.
"We have seen the benefits of visits like these," he said.
"We are excited for them to see the region and also excited for the positive exposure."
