Money raised via Facebook as Jazzy’s fight touches hearts
LOVABLE Staffy 'Jazzy' has touched the hearts of the Whitsunday community.
On July 10, Jazzy's owner Tina Cionti from Jubilee Pocket had to rush her to dog to James Cook University's Vet Emergency Hospital in Townsville where she was diagnosed with Lymphoma.
Lymphoma is a group of blood cell tumours that develop from lymphocytes.
Ms Cionti knew that the pet insurance she just joined would not cover the costs to help her and get her treatment.
To her unexpected delight, three Whitsunday residents Cheryl McCosh, Kerstin Altmann and Suz Crabtree created a Facebook page called 'Jazzy's Fight'.
The Facebook page gained 100 likes on its first day.
Ms Cionti felt very humbled by the response and soon enough money was raised for Jazz to start chemotheraphy treatment.
"Our amazing community as well as other beautiful people from neighbouring towns and other parts of Australia donated over $4000," she said.
One month on and Jazzy is still fighting strong, receiving her seventh round of chemo on Wednesday in Mackay.
"She's doing fine but she still has a long way to go," Ms Cionti said.
Jazzy is predicted to receive another 19 rounds of chemo.
Ms Cionti said she is eternally grateful for the community's support.
"This has been a very humbling experience and my gratitude to these amazing people is overwhelming and I feel so totally blessed to be part of this community," she said.
