Girl's abduction claim a hoax

BREAKING: It has been reported that a complaint made yesterday of an attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl on the Gold Coast is a hoax.

It is understood the girl has since withdrawn the complaint.

Morcombes save girl from abductor

ORIGINAL STORY: A 10-YEAR-OLD girl who fought off a would-be abductor has Bruce and Denise Morcombe to thank, her mother has told media.

The girl knew what to do because Daniel Morcombe's parents had visited her school a week earlier.

A man in a white Commodore reportedly tried to abduct the 10-year-old as she walked home from Labrador State School yesterday afternoon.

The girl kicked the man as he tried to drag her into his car, her mother told the Nine Network.

"(She) was very distraught, came home and was crying, and said that she realised that her life could be over in a matter of seconds," her mother said.

"Daniel Morcombe's parents came to visit her school last week so she knew what to do in that sort of situation.

"I'm just grateful that she's safe."

Bruce and Denise Morcombe have been named Queensland's Australians of the Year for their work as child protection advocates after their son Daniel, 13, was abducted on the Sunshine Coast eight years ago.

The Morcombes have been appointed child safety ambassadors for Queensland and have been tirelessly visiting schools throughout the country to get their child safety message across.
