More details revealed on break-in at Airlie Beach cafe
POLICE are yet to find two women who broke into the Village Cafe Restaurant and Bar in Airlie Beach.
In the early hours of November 26, two women were caught on security cameras climbing over the railing into the cafe, which sits next to Magnums Backpackers.
Footage shows one of the women lying down while the other rips down a string of lights from the deck ceiling.
She then took a table from the cafe and threw it over the balcony.
The whole incident was caught on film before one of the women pulled the security camera from the wall.
Whitsunday Police Sergeant Barry Harran said the two women were believed to be from Mackay but police had not yet located her.
Speaking last week, Village Cafe Restaurant and Bar owner Lawrence Topp said the incident was a harsh blow after what had been a difficult year.
“We kind of thought that, come COVID and reopening back at the end of June … that there’s nothing else that can get thrown at us this year,” he said.
“This would (usually) be just another one of those things that frustrate you, but when you add it all up collectively, it’s nearly the straw that breaks the camel’s back.”
