PROSERPINE para-cyclist David Nicholas successfully defended his C3 time trial world championship in Canada on Friday.
As the curtain came down on the 2013 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships in Baie-Comeau, Canada, Nicholas backed up his gold medal effort at last year's Paralympic Games to storm home to gold in a great time of 25:13.27.
Nicholas was 14 seconds clear of Norwegian runner-up Glen Johansen and 18 clear of Italian bronze medallist Roberto Bargna.
The championships made a return to Baie-Comeau, Canada, where they were held in 2010, and boasted a field of paralympic champions, reigning World Champions and newly-crowned World Cup winners.
A total of 264 athletes from 39 countries competed in the Quebec city, most making the trip from nearby Matane, where they competed in the third and final round of the World Cup last week.
