More money for prep teacher aides
PREP students at Cannonvale and Proserpine state schools are among those set to benefit from additional Prep teacher aide hours each week in 2015.
Whitsunday MP Jason Costigan said the funding was part of the Newman Government's $54 million four-year commitment "Boosting Prep For Our Children's Future".
"The Newman Government has a strong plan for a brighter future for our youngest Queenslanders and by funding more teacher aide hours we are ensuring children have extra support to develop learning and social skills at an early age," he said.
Mr Costigan said the early years of school set the foundation for life-long learning and success, "which is why the Government believes it's vital to invest significantly in this area".
"Teacher aides play a critical role in Prep classrooms and I welcome this move on behalf of our youngest learners," he said.
Mr Costigan said Whitsunday schools were among the 127 state schools across Queensland to benefit by sharing in 2,250 additional Prep teacher aide hours per week next year.
In 2015, Cannonvale State School will receive 23.2 additional prep teacher aide hours each week and Proserpine State School will receive an additional 12.6 hours. Other schools to benefit next year will be Eimeo Road State School (40.2) Calen District State College (18.5) Bloomsbury State School (16) and Bucasia State School (12.9).
Proserpine State School teacher's aide Christian Payne, said this was a great outcome for the students.
"With our [teacher's aides] workload now and class expectations, it's just going to bring great results for the students," he said.
