More promotion for Airlie Beach

WHITSUNDAYS Marketing and Development Limited (WMDL) is about to embark on an extensive sales promotion as part of the next phase of its Airlie Beach re-launch marketing campaign.

Starting next week and for the following ten weeks, Mackay and Townsville residents will see a range of holiday deals promoted through more than 500 newspaper, television and radio advertisments as well as through digital media channels.

WMDL's chief executive officer Danial Rochford said the aim of the campaign was to boost business for the Whitsunday region over the traditionally slow period of January to March.

"The sales promotion encourages the regional market to explore their own backyard by taking advantage of some great deals," he said.

WMDL kicked off the $250,000 Airlie Beach re-launch campaign in October 2013, focusing marketing efforts on the drive market.

Mr Rochford said to date, WMDL and the Whitsunday tourism industry had installed kerb-side bus wraps on two buses in Mackay and Townsville, undertaken shopping centre promotions and sponsored the Townsville Crocs basketball game to promote Airlie Beach and the completion of the main street upgrade.

"We have heard from many sides that Airlie Beach is a hot topic and the sales promotion will now help to convert this increasing interest into direct business for our local operators," he said.
