More units for senior residents in Proserpine
AN additional six one-bedroom units are currently being built on Marathon Street in Proserpine to accommodate seniors as part of the Proserpine Senior Living Inc initiative.
The intitiative is a community owned and operated non-profit organisation run by a small group of dedicated volunteers.
This year marks 40 years since the founding of the organisation, originally known as Proserpine Homes For Aged Persons Society Inc. They have built a total of 41 units to accommodate senior citizens with the additional six expected to be finished by November.
The committee aims to provide low cost, affordable accommodation to elderly residents in the Whitsunday region, enabling them to continue living independently within a safe and secure environment. Proserpine Senior Living administrator Kylie Borellini said this was a great community project that still remained largely unknown by the public.
Ms Borellini said senior living was in high demand in the Whitsundays.
"Our committee recognised that our region has an ongoing need for more units to accommodate the rapidly growing number of seniors wishing to continue living independently and close to services," she said.
Proserpine Senior Living units are on Marathon Street which is within walking distance to Proserpine CBD.
Once the new units are completed, an open day will be held to share their work with the wider community and formally celebrate their 40-year anniversary.
