UPDATE: Ergon Energy is urging their customers to get a licensed electrical contractor as soon as possible if their home or business's wiring has been in any way damaged in the cyclone.

Repairs may be required before their premesis is ready for the power to be switched back on.

Customer Delivery Manager Mark Biffanti said "While we are working as quickly and safely as possible to ensure power supply is available, customers have a role to ensure their installation is ready to receive power."

Ergon Energy would repair any service lines that had come down from power poles outside properties.

"It is Ergon Energy's responsibility to reconnect the service line, but it is the customer's responsibility to engage a licensed electrical contractor for any electrical repair work on the connection point and wiring," Mr Biffanti said.

"Most properties that have overhead powerlines have a mains connection on the fascia at the front or side of their home that connects the service wire to the house wiring.

"If the service wire connection to the house has been damaged or pulled away, it must be checked by a licensed electrical contractor before Ergon Energy can restore supply to the home."

Mr Biffanti said contacting a licensed electrical contractor as soon as possible would also be worthwhile in cases where the service line was down at both the pole and the house.

"In all cases, the licensed electrical contractor should promptly submit a Form A to Ergon Energy once repairs have been carried out to enable power to be reconnected," he said.

EARLIER: MOST of the Whitsundays could have their power restored by the end of next week, according to an Ergon Energy restoration plan.

On Friday, April 7 Ergon aims to restore power to 80% of customers affected by Cyclone Debbie.

Acting chief operating officer Paul Jordan said there were workers on the ground in Bowen, Mackay, Proserpine and Airlie Beach making repairs to the network and restoring power.

"We have already restored over one third of customers since Cyclone Debbie crossed the coast on Tuesday and we have an additional 100 workers moving into the area to boost the effort," he said.

Since Cyclone Debbie hit, the number of customers without power has dropped from 65,000 to 39,500 which Mr Jordan said was "significant under the circumstances".

He said Ergon and Energex were determined to restore a safe network supply to the region despite the plan being "ambitious" in the light of the enormity of damage to the network, particularly in parts of Proserpine and the network that supplies the coastal areas of Cannonvale and Airlie Beach.

"We know that power supply is important for our communities," he said.

"We're doing everything in our power to restore the network as quickly and safely as possible."

Restoration work for Cannonvale customers is expected to be completed by Wednesday, April 5 while customers in Cannon Valley, Woodwark and Cannonvale on that feeder can expect to be restored by Tuesday, April 11.

For Proserpine, customers in Hamilton Plains and on the feeder in Proserpine can expect to be restored by Thursday, April 6.

Mr Jordan said customers needed to be aware of fallen powerlines and service wires that Ergon may not be aware of.

If a powerline is spotted, treat it as live and call 131 670.
