Dawson MP questions Senator's support of sugar tax
FEDERAL Member for Dawson George Christensen has invited former Palmer United Party Senator Glenn Lazarus to visit Mackay, Proserpine and the Burdekin to explain why he is in favour of a sugar tax.
Mr Christensen said he expected Mr Lazarus to have a better understanding of the importance of the industry.
"It appears Senator Lazarus is having a thought bubble, but it's a thought bubble that is dangerous from a man who claims to represent the interests of Queenslanders," Mr Christensen said.
"Senator Lazarus said yesterday on the ABC program The Drum, and I quote 'I really like the idea of a sugar tax' and he went on to say it should not just be applied to drinks but to other products as well," Mr Christensen said.
Mr Christensen said his office had issued the invitation to Mr Lazarus today and he was awaiting a response.
